The cell phone market and the industries which rely on it have gone through some major changes recently, some of the changes have had to be made to allow the companies to continue to increase their profits from their existing customers. As technology changes they have to be able to justify new charges for additional services. Lots of new services are continually offered to cell subscribers, in the past people bought simple handsets with basic features, but most people now have a handset so things need to change to keep money coming in. Cell phone companies cannot sell phones in the same quantity as they used to, new customers are in short supply. Most of the population have handsets already. In order to make more profits, the cell companies create additional services and features, they justify ground breaking addons with realtively small fees which mount up. Another cell service is free reverse cell lookups which are designed to allow people to look into who owns a particular phone by searching on the number. They appear free but only the search is free, to access the results they charge a small fee, and so make lots of money.
